INDICATIONS
Esomeprazole Sodium Injection is indicated for the treatment of acid-related gastrointestinal disorders when oral therapy is not appropriate or possible.
It may be used in the treatment of:
• Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD)
• Erosive esophagitis
• Peptic ulcer disease
• Gastric and duodenal ulcers
• Prevention and treatment of NSAID-associated gastric and duodenal ulcers, where clinically appropriate
• Hypersecretory conditions such as Zollinger-Ellison syndrome
• Other acid-related disorders as clinically appropriate
Treatment should be used according to the approved prescribing information.
CONTRAINDICATIONS
Esomeprazole Sodium is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to esomeprazole, other substituted benzimidazoles, or any component of the formulation.
DRUG INTERACTIONS
Particular consideration may be required with concomitant use of:
• Clopidogrel
• Warfarin and other medicines requiring therapeutic monitoring
• Methotrexate at high doses
• Medicines with pH-dependent absorption
• Certain antiretroviral medicines
The treating physician should review all concomitant medications before administration.
ADMINISTRATION
Esomeprazole Sodium Injection is intended for intravenous administration.
The contents of the vial should be reconstituted with a suitable compatible diluent under appropriate aseptic conditions.
The reconstituted solution should be administered by a qualified healthcare professional according to the approved product information and institutional protocol.
